Dear IAPCO delegates,

It gives me a great pleasure to extend a warm welcome to all attending the IAPCO 2024 Annual Conference and General Assembly in the capital of Slovenia. Meetings by scientific and professional associations represent an important platform for the advance in many fields.

This IAPCO meeting, which will gather the “crème de la crème” among professional congress organisers with a global range, will leave a legacy in our destination, also due to the association’s ongoing quest for innovation. I believe this is also the way in which cities should be ultimately managed.

I am confident that Ljubljana, for me “the most beautiful city in the world”, will give you excellent experience both in professional networking within the programme or during your time at leisure.

I am proud of the sustainable development of Ljubljana. In sixteen years, we have planned, implemented and put into use a total of more than 2,400 projects, with which we have improved the quality of life in the city in all areas of living. We have created almost 19 hectares of pedestrian spaces in the city center, which has become a popular venue for many social, cultural and sporting events. We renovated Ljubljanica riverbanks, which became a favourite gathering place for all generations, for which we received first prize in Barcelona out of 347 projects from 36 European countries. For those, who want to relax in nature, the largest park in Ljubljana Tivoli extends into the very centre of the city. Ljubljana, on that note, has more than 560 square meters of green space per inhabitant.

I am also very proud that Ljubljana was recognised as European Green Capital 2016, a prestigious title awarded by the European Commission, thus commending it as the best performing city for its achievements in environmental sustainability. Moreover, it has been ranked first on the list of twenty best European Green Capitals, created by the organization European Best Destinations. In 2022 we also became the holders of the prestigious title of the Best Destination in Europe, as voted by travellers from all over the world. Ljubljana was also chosen as one of the 100 Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities within a call of the European Commission. We are very proud, that Ljubljana has its place among most ambitious cities, which will inspire on their way to climate neutrality. Ljubljana has also been declared UNESCO City of Literature due to its rich cultural heritage and a thriving contemporary literary scene.

On top of the necessary infrastructure, a city's image as a tourist destination is also shaped by the human dimension. This is what visitors from abroad, including meeting planners and conference delegates, highly appreciate in Ljubljana. I am incredibly proud that Ljubljana is a city where we live together in respect eachother and where we accept everyone with open arms.

Once again, we’ll be delighted to welcome you in Ljubljana, a city with a cosmopolitan heart and a green soul built to the human measure. I wish you an inspirational and rewarding meeting as well as truly enjoyable networking activities. And do try to take some time off, too, to explore and enjoy all the most beautiful city in the world has to offer.

Warmly welcome in our Ljubljana, a green jewel in the middle of Europe!

Dear friends,

I am sending my words of welcome from Slovenia – the green heart of Europe, a country that has something for everyone; there’s hardly such a small piece of land anywhere else in the world that contains four different worlds: the Alps meets the Adriatic Sea, and the Pannonian Plain flows seamlessly into the astonishing Karst. We invite you to experience this magnificent symphony of diversity and excellence.

It is a great pleasure and an honour for me to invite you to our small, green, charming and friendly capital – Ljubljana, where everything is at your fingertips. Ljubljana will host the 54th General Assembly of the International Association of Professional Congress Organisers – IAPCO. Situated in Slovenia’s capital, Cankarjev dom is a proud member of this important association – as Slovenia’s only professional congress organizer; Its professional and experienced team welcomes the challenge of organising and programming this momentous event.

We are proud to be part of the IAPCO family, which operates on all continents and professionally organises scientific events marked by creativity, innovation, sociability, new technologies and raising awareness about diversity on all levels.

The common thread of our assembly will be the contributions from top experts in various fields, our speakers have been chosen with a view to emphasizing the green authenticity of Slovenia and sustainable development. The meeting’s slogan, BE THE FLOW (aware, responsible, smart), expresses the great vigour invested into organising every single one of our events.

Three days of unforgettable experiences, planned together with our colleagues, await you here; To be enjoyed in a country that prides itself on rich cultural heritage, gastronomy, natural wonders and a special way of life. We will reveal our best assets and do our utmost to make your visit to Slovenia – a small country “under the Alps” that combines the best of all worlds – a pleasant and unforgettable experience.

Warmly welcome.

Yours sincerely,
